The CY 2019 Medicare Final Rules include several changes for next year as well as some important changes for providers to prepare for CYs 2020 and 2021. One key change: nonexcepted off-campus provider-based departments are no longer excluded from 340B Drug Program pricing. Review important E&M documentation and code changes for CY 2019, new procedure codes, and expanded packaging in the hospital outpatient department. Plus, information to help your staff complete Appropriate Use Criteria using Clinical Decision Support Mechanisms. This program is designed to provide the oncology staff with references and resources to assist in their day-to-day responsibilities in the realm of documentation, reimbursement and compliance. The course will provide a detail of the importance of these as well as a review of the current Medicare guidelines to assist in compliant documentation and code capture for procedures performed within the Radiation Oncology Department. The program will also inform the clinician on new updates and proposed rules for the 2020 calendar year.

Back To Basics, Understanding the Fundamentals of the Medicare Payment Systems

Productivity is at the forefront of medicine and the radiation oncology specialty; however, lack of understanding of the Medicare program can lead to difficulty in gauging the health of the organization. Understanding concepts that affect reimbursement, such as bundling, packaging, comprehensive payments and alternative payment models, can assist the management staff in identifying reimbursement trends and potential changes needed for budgeting and future planning. This presentation will address the Medicare Physicians Fee Schedule and Hospital Prospective Payment System to review the basics for each payment system and key terms and concepts that apply to each system and the various CPT® codes utilized in the radiation oncology department.

This session will review the highest utilized, highest financial and compliance risk codes and scenarios in Radiation Therapy for 2019 and 2020. We will review associated and necessary documentation to reduce risk and increase reimbursement in a regulatory compliant manner. Time will be allocated for Q&A.

Dosimetry 101: Back to the Basics

In this session, the presenters will discuss the coding differences when utilizing different planning modalities such as 2D (Conventional), 3D Conformal, IMRT, SRS/SBRT, Brachytherapy, etc. When appropriate, sample cases will be presented to illustrate coding patterns and potential payer edits. This program will also provide a glimpse into the roles for therapists/dosimetrists in the realm of documentation, reimbursement and compliance with Dosimetry.

The benefits of a positive culture and consistent process involving change management are noticed throughout all parts of an oncology department. Each person or staff group plays an important role in the growth and development of a department and responses to change plays an important part. Attendees will the come away with an understanding and ideas pertaining to how they and others in their department can positively affect change.
